Short tales about deadly books, by top mystery authors. Attempting the perfect murder, a killer encounters the perfect cop. After years of get-rich-quick schemes, Troy Pellingham´s bank account is empty and his options are down to one: take a job in his uncle´s rare-book shop and spend his days working for an unpleasant man whose only redeeming quality is a mammoth bank account. Though well into his 80s, Uncle Rodney is the picture of good health, and the day when Troy will inherit the old man´s money seems very far away. But then Troy gets a brilliant idea: why shelve books for a living when he can kill for a fortune? After the deed is done, a peculiarly shabby police detective comes to call. Lieutenant Columbo seems dimwitted, and Troy expects he will have no trouble putting him off the scent. But as the noose tightens around his neck, Troy realizes that no murder is too perfect for Columbo. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Fred Berman. ´All this could be yours!´ Paddington read on the glossy leaflet showing a large, sleek silver-grey car. It took him a long time to eat 15 packets of currants in order to enter the competition. And the Rolls-Royce he´d expected to win turned out to be one of 10,000 consolation prizes - a bookmark! Then Paddington finds himself taking a driving test and, much to his amazement, is presented with a license allowing him to drive a rather unusual vehicle. 1. Language: English. Welcome to the Museum of Everything; feel free to wander round our many galleries and experience the history of everything. Children are welcome, but please keep them in the bags provided.´´ Here is the critically acclaimed comedy sketch show written and performed by Danny Robins, Dan Tetsell, and Marcus Brigstock - the team behind BBC2´s We Are History. Based on the successful Edinburgh Festival show, it´s a sketch show in disguise, themed around the world of museums, galleries, guided tours, stately homes, historial re-enactors, and obsessive collectors, and set in the vaguely mystical and apparently infinite environs of the Museum of Everything. Our guides are a pair of long-suffering, underpaid West Country museum attendants, who pop up to remind us of museum rules, announce forthcoming attractions, and reassure us that it´s never far to the promised land of the gift shop, where you can buy leather bookmarks, novelty pencil sharpeners and fudge in the shape of Jane Austen. 1. Winner of the 2018 Republic of Consciousness Prize.Longlisted for the 2018 Dylan Thomas prize.New Statesman Books of the Year 2017.The Telegraph Books of the Year 2017.The Guardian Best Books of the Year 2017.The White Review Books of the Year 2017.Australian Book Review Books of the Year 2017.This debut collection from Eley Williams centres upon the difficulties of communication and the way in which one´s thoughts - absurd, encompassing, oblique - may never be fully communicable and yet can overwhelm. Attrib. and other stories celebrates the trickiness of language just as it confronts its limits. Correspondingly, the stories are littered with the physical ephemera of language: dictionaries, dog-eared pages, bookmarks and old coffee stains on older books. This centres on the weird, tender intricacies of the everyday where characters vie to ´own´ their words, tell tall tales and attempt to define their worlds. With affectionate, irreverent and playful prose, the inability to communicate exactly what we mean dominates this bold new collection from one of Britain´s unique and most original new writers. 1. A heartbreaking page turner with an unexpected ending....A heartbreaking story of family secrets from the USA Today best-selling author of Gracie’s Secret. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain. I know you. I know you in a way you can’t even imagine. I have been searching for you in the years since you wrote that letter - the letter that told me you were looking for me too. But now that I’ve found you, I don’t know if I can say the terrible truth of what I am. It would ruin your perfect life. It would hurt your beautiful daughter. So, I hesitate - bide my time, for now. This morning, you’re running late and your little girl, tugged by the hand, scurries to keep up with you. She’s clean but a little scrawny. Maybe that’s because you struggle with the bills; maybe she’s just made that way. I know what it is to have lost a child. I pray you never learn how that feels. But I can’t wait forever… and when I finally tell you my secret, will it break you like it did me all those years ago? ´´Riveting… Emotional! This was a brilliant fast-paced domestic drama!... A compelling story full of all the twists and turns.´´ (Audio Killed the Bookmark) ´´The characters are flawed but show great emotion… The author has tremendous insight into the mind of a young child… If you like domestic thrillers, emotion-packed drama, and a gripping storyline, this book is definitely for you.´´ (Waggy Tales Dog Blog, 5 stars) ´´You did not know who to trust and who kept which secret. Everybody seemed suspicious…. When the culprit was finally revealed and all secrets were in the open, I could not believe my eyes. Not even in my wildest dream could I have guessed that! Fast paced…. emotional.´´ (B for Book Reviews, 5 stars) 1. Language: English. Narrator: Alison Campbell. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/153240/bk_acx0_153240_sample.mp3. The waves and wind that produce the storms of our lives are real. The struggle is real. In life we sometimes face issues that really challenge our discipleship and faithfulness. At such moments hope begins to wane and we live on the edge of hope. Options become limited and one gets stuck, overwhelmed, and crying out for help without a clear answer on the way. What do you do? Do not allow your fears hold you back when you are living on the edge of hope. They will trap you. Activate whatever measure of hope and faith that is left to keep your head above the crashing waves. Faith does not necessarily save us from storms, trials, tribulations, or suffering. What it does is to give us strength to face them. Faith gives us hope when despair threatens us. Our hope in God is not a bookmark in the Bible that is consulted once in a while. It is a way of living because hope puts its hands to work How lovely on the mountain are the feet of those who bring good news (Isaiah 52:7).These words are even more relevant in our times and in our nation: The reality of dwindling and weakening faith, ´´diluted´´ and misinterpretation of scriptures, use of scripture, and the word of God for personal aggrandizement, unbridled innovations in living out the Christian life, and so on, throw a big challenge at people´s interpretation, understanding and living out of the scripture. These challenges notwithstanding, the word of God has to be preached. The call for all to witness with a good life has its foundation in a good interpretation of the preached word. This ought to be proclaimed in and out of season. One who is grounded in the word will naturally teach the word and even live it out. Like Romans 10:14 remarks; ´´how then are they to call on him if they have not come to believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard him? And how will they hear of him unless there is a preacher?´´ Buy this audiobook now. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jk Gregg.
